Great news: copywriting is not at all like English class. Sure, understanding the rules is helpful, but sometimes we break the rules (like starting sentences with “And” and “But” or … gasp! … having an incomplete sentence!).
Copywriting is like any other career—you need training. Getting that training will help you hone the skills you need to thrive in a copywriting career (if that’s the route you choose) or add skills to your toolkit so you’re more attractive to employers in general!
YOUR BIGGEST STRENGTH
You know your strengths, but you’re also keenly aware of areas you need to work on. The way to work on these areas? Do the thing. Don’t love deadlines? Set mini deadlines for yourself, breaking big tasks into tiny ones. Or plan to reward yourself when you hit the deadline. Don’t love feedback? Practice asking for feedback and incorporating it. The more you do it, the more you realize the huge benefits that can come from collaboration. We don’t have to go it all alone!
WATCH OUT FOR
Resistance has a sneaky way of popping up. Whether you find yourself doing laundry instead of hitting an urgent deadline or reading a book on a topic instead of actually doing the thing, resistance can sometimes feel productive. But ask yourself: is this truly moving me closer to my goal, or am I avoiding doing the things that will actually move the needle?
Remember: you don’t gain confidence before you take action. You gain confidence by taking action.
