A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[1:00] Copywriting versus copyediting…what are the differences? Are they different industries?
[2:30] Kate began her career as a copy editor before becoming a copywriter. She says the best way to discern the difference is to take the word copy out, writing versus editing, to simplify the answer.
[6:00] Copy editors are responsible for the “nitty-gritty”, checking for typos and following style guides and honoring word choices.
[8:25] Many employers will require candidates to take a copy editing test to show they are not just a proofreader but actually have the trained eye of a copy editor.
[9:45] You need training to be a copy editor, it is not something that someone can just wing without proper training and experience.
[11:00] Nicki and Kate do not recommend that someone combines these two services as copy editing is more related to content and not copywriting. And editing your own copy is extremely difficult…but not impossible.
