A lot of people have seriously strong feelings about the name of my company.
But it’s important that “Filthy Rich Writer” makes people think. If you had a “Wait, what?” reaction to the name, it’s probably because you didn’t know you could make money as a writer. If you’re here, you probably now know that’s not true.
In this episode, we’re digging into a bit of company history, including why I named my company Filthy Rich Writer and what it means to me to be filthy rich. So, if you have feelings about the name or want a behind-the-scenes look at my thought process in naming the company, this one is for you.

[1:25] I called my company “Filthy Rich Writer” because I wanted people to pause, and then want to learn more. We grow up thinking writers can’t any money. And while that’s true of other writing careers like bloggers and journalists, it’s hard to make a really good living. But with copywriting it is possible to make a good living.
[3:32] To me, being “filthy rich” means having a job you love, being respected for it, and being paid well to do it.
[4:54] We have friends that value what we do as writers, asking us to write their cover letters or look over angry emails before they send them to coworkers, but it’s a revelation to be respected and paid well for the writing that you do.
[6:00] I know there are still plenty of people who do not like the name “Filthy Rich Writer,” and that’s fine. The people that don’t do any kind of research or click through to learn more about what “filthy rich” means have already closed their minds to the idea that people can make money as a writer.
[7:20] The people that I want to work with are the kinds of people that go wait a minute, is making money writing a thing? And then discover the opportunity to create copywriting careers of their own.
