“Copywriting is sooooo hard to get into,” says the person that you meet at a party who has no idea what they’re talking about.
People often say copywriting is hard to get into because they didn’t learn how to write copy in the first place.
In this episode, Nicki and Kate share why it’s not hard to get into copywriting when you have training and a proven process for finding clients.

A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[1:30] Nicki and Kate share where they hear this question most often and the various reactions they hear when they tell people they are copywriters.
[3:11] The people that say copywriting is hard to get into are often the same people that never learned how to write copy. They were maybe good writers, but didn’t realize that copywriting is a specialized type of writing.
[4:40] Diving right into doing something is fine if it’s a hobby, but if you’re selling a service like copywriting, you need to know what you’re doing to be effective. You wouldn’t say you’re a pilot without receiving training.
[6:46] If people have learned how to write copy, the second thing they often say is, “Oh I don’t know how to find clients.” You need a proven system to find and pitch clients.
[9:30] If you hear “it’s hard to get into copywriting,” you may think you shouldn’t pursue it. But often, you’re taking advice from people who haven’t done it or have gone about it in the wrong way. Take advice from people who are successful at what you want to do.
[16:00] Copywriters have been around for a very long time and it’s a growing career. Lots of famous writers were also copywriters (including the person who wrote Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer).
[21:00] Especially in 2020, there are plenty of people who will think it’s extra hard to get into copywriting. But, in fact, it’s a great time to become a copywriter.
