I am SO excited to share this summer reading list with you—straight from the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy community!
We crowdsourced dozens of recommendations and (after a very heated debate) narrowed it down to 15 top picks: a mix of can’t-put-it-down novels and business-building gems.
On this this episode of the Build Your Copywriting Business we’re breaking down why each book made the list—and how they can help you grow as a copywriter and enjoy some much-needed downtime.
Your challenge? Pick at least one book for fun and one to fuel your business.
Got a favorite summer read we missed?
Leave a comment! We’d love to grow this list with even more crowd-sourced gems. (And I’m always looking to add to my Goodreads list.)
And I’d love to know: which book are you diving into first?

A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[02:00] We are gonna make some book recommendations. Not just us but also couple of our team members on the Filthy Rich Writer team, and then to the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy community.
[02:35] Four Thousand Weeks: Time Management for Mortals by Oliver Burkeman. This book just reminded me of the importance of staying in the present and staying grounded in what truly matters and letting go of some of the less important things in life.
[02:40] Online Influence by Bas Wouters. It is all about the tests and the tweaks that you make on websites and the way that you present information. Cleverly applying behavioral psychology will massively increase the results of your website, app, or online campaign.
[07:00] I will Teach you to be Rich by Ramit Sethi. It’s not just feeling abundant in money, but also feeling abundant in time, relationship, and just building the best possible life that you can, having a rich life.
[09:20] The Obstacle Is the Way by Ryan Holiday. I find it really helpful to go back to again and again whenever I am facing a new challenge. If you’re finding yourself just feeling a little extra challenged, it’s such a good go-to.
[12:09] The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley. It’s a little bit sci-fi, romance, and action. It’s put well together in a well written, well crafted storyline. The prose itself is well crafted and the story itself.
[13:16] God of the Woods by Liz Moore. there’s a mystery element to it, but there’s good character development. An immersive, propulsive novel about a missing child. It’s one of those where you might be in bed and your partner looks over and like, are you still up? It’s 2:00 AM. And you’re like, I can’t stop it.
[14:27] Tapestries by Kien Nguyen. This is a book written by a Vietnamese author. A story that takes place over generations of a family and features all of the intensity of wealth and power and status intermixed with conflict surrounding all of these things clashing together.
[15:37] Stories Sell by Matthew Dicks. It’s really about using stories for life [00:16:00] and to connect to people, which, you know, that’s what we’re trying to do. So I recommend it on all levels for marketing, for copywriting, and for just being a more interesting human.
[17:00] Letter to my Daughter written by George Bishop was a very heart touching story. A mother has opened up herself vulnerably by writing a letter to tell her 15-year-old daughter her life as a 15-year-old. And within the book it shows vulnerability, pain, and quiet love.
[18:30] The Four Tendencies by Gretchen Rubin. It helps you understand why you do or don’t do the things based on how you respond to expectation. I feel like this just really helps to explain how people thrive and how you individually thrive.
[23:00] The Perfect Horse by Elizabeth Letts. This book is actually a World War II book. It’s about those horses and the people who risk and sometimes lost their lives trying to protect them and keep them safe from the Nazis.
[28:10] Mindset: The Psychology of Success by Carol S Dweck. So much of our direction in our careers and in our personal lives comes from having a growth attitude towards your life. The author gives a ton of examples about how this comes to life in raising kids, relationship, and day to day chores.
[27:35] Jobs to Be Done: Theory to Practice book by Anthony W Ulwick. Someone can really help to anchor an experience and anchor the writing within an experience so that people never lose sight of what they’re actually trying to do.
[30:48] The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones. It’s a horror novel sort of book. It won a few awards. It was sort of a New York Times bestseller.
[31:25] Mass Persuasion Method by Bushra Azhar. What I found exceptionally helpful about it is with the persuasion switches, you can use them when you’re copywriting. I used to really enjoy using them if I was writing an email sequence.
