Claire always dreamed of going into marketing and fell into a job in a completely different industry. While she loves her full-time job, she still held onto her dream of breaking into marketing. She decided to join the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy (CCA) in February of 2021, landed her first client three weeks after pitching, and now has a consistent workload from several clients.
On this episode, Claire shares why building her copywriting business as a side hustle was the best path for her and how it puts her in a stronger position if she ever does want to leave her full-time job. She also shares crucial tips for time management that you’ll want to hear, especially if you’re also building your copywriting business alongside your 9 to 5!

A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[1:00] We are introduced to our hosts and their guest, Claire, a CCA student and a copywriter who created her business while also balancing a full-time job.
[5:00] Claire takes us along on her journey through the CCA and why she chose to keep her full-time job (which is completely unrelated to copywriting or marketing) while beginning to work as a copywriter on the side.
[7:30] Nicki and Kate ask their guest to go through what a typical day looks like for her, and how she manages to stay on schedule with both endeavors.
[10:35] The great thing about copywriting as a side hustle is that you can do it anytime. You do not need to work within set hours, you can do it anytime of the day. It’s really flexible and if you have to take a client call during the day, aim for lunchtime.
[14:45] Nicki asks Claire what her concerns and hesitancies were before enrolling in the CCA and what initially held her back from a copywriting career.
[18:00] Claire explains how it’s not hard to make time for her copywriting job as it doesn’t feel like work and she enjoys spending her time writing copy.
[21:00] It’s important to not try to do too much too fast and let yourself burn out. You have to be aware of the hours you are putting in so it’s sustainable.
[25:30] Learning to balance multiple clients, regardless if you are working full time or part time, is an important skill that comes with experience.
