A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[0:38] Nicki and Kate preview the episode and bust a common myth in copywriting: there’s no such thing as SEO copywriting.
[1:37] Nicki defines SEO and shares that it stands for search engine optimization. The goal of SEO is to get a website to show up higher in search results from a web browser.
[2:57] Kate explains that SEO is a full career on its own. There is much more that goes into search engine ranking than just the writing, so it’s impossible to have a definitive impact on SEO with copywriting alone.
[6:14] Nicki points out that copywriters don’t have the space in their writing to be trying to add in a bunch of keywords naturally. Content writing is typically used to put keywords on a website because there’s space available for it.
[8:39] Nicki illustrates that all copywriting is “SEO copywriting” (even though it isn’t a real thing) in the sense that copywriters use those most important terms and phrases in order to get the business’s message across. But, a copywriter will be unable to make a substantial impact on SEO with copywriting alone.
[10:38] Sometimes companies list a job opening for an SEO Copywriter. This means that the company really is looking for a content writer (and they just don’t know it) or a jack-of-all-trades that can run SEO, copywriting, and content.
[13:17] SEO is much more than just keywords! Site speed, backlinks, and research all are just a few of the parts that make up SEO.
[14:27] Sometimes, you need to sit down and work with your client on what they actually need. Sometimes a client really just needs a content writer to help them create keyword-focused content.
[18:00] Our hosts wrap the episode and repeat the fact that there’s no such thing as an SEO copywriter, even though all copywriters should be using those keywords and important terms in their writing!
