It’s very tempting to purchase software to make us feel professional. But taking action and landing clients is what makes you a professional copywriter. Making professional purchases is often a distraction from doing the work we need to do.
That said, there is tons of software for copywriters that has a free level and today Nicki and Kate are talking about seven of their favorites. While you may not get all the features at once, you can use the software and find what works to you. Then, when and if the time comes, you can upgrade…if it’s going to pay for itself many, many times over.

A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[2:10] When it comes to software, if it’s not going to pay for itself many times over it’s not worth it, at least when you are starting out. So let’s talk about free software!
[2:45] Project management software, like Asana, can be a lifesaver and a great way to stay organized.
[8:30] Google’s platform, with Sheets and Docs, is a great resource. And since you can save things to the cloud you can access it all from anywhere and it’s protected in case your computer crashes.
[11:30] Nicki also utilizes a list app to stay organized both at work and in her professional life.
[13:00] Another helpful app is one that keeps you focused, by limiting what websites and apps you can open during set times.
[15:10] If you use Chrome as your browser there are a number of free extensions that you can utilize.
[18:00] Listening to music while you work is great, and Spotify is a good resource, but be careful that the music you are listening to doesn’t impact your productivity!
[22:30] Whatever app you use for scheduling, make sure you keep it updated with your calendar!
[26:00] Using the free version of software is a great way to see if you use it, if it works for you, and if it makes sense to purchase the paid version.
Must-Hear Takeaways
As with every episode, we highly encourage you listen to the entire conversation! But, here are a few of the highlights:
“Our policy about software in general is if it is not going to pay for itself many times over, you don’t need it. You can get to that point where you can add software and add things on to your business, but make sure you’re making money first. ” – Nicki
“If this is going to save you $75, $100, $150, $200 worth of your time each month versus the software? Do that math. Take that into account. And you’ll probably realize, ‘ok, this is actually going to pay for hours of my time. And it’s worth it.'” – Kate
