A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[1:24] The first question to boost your productivity is “when do you work best during the day?” And instead of just picking the time you think is most productive, spend a few weeks tracking your time to really see when you are at your best!
[4:45] Sometimes what influences our productivity isn’t the type of tasks we have to do, but the time at which we choose to do those tasks. And this is fluid and won’t always remain the same, so plan to do this tracking exercise a few times throughout the year.
[8:24] The next question is “do you work better on one project or bouncing between different projects?” After you do a self inventory you might be surprised with the results!
[14:55] Doing a time audit can be really eye opening! Is it fun, not really? But it is very important to examine how you spend your time to maximize your productivity.
[18:00] Next up is examining which tasks are most draining, and being intentional when you schedule them so you are not using up your peak time.
[22:10] The final question is “what tasks, do you personally, not need to do?” Don’t be afraid to look at your to do list through the lens of a business owner. You can delegate many of the admin tasks!
[26:10] What is on your calendar that makes you crazy or annoys you? If you can pay someone to do something, that also allows your to work more (and make more money) it just makes sense financially!
[32:46] Just because you know how to do something, or you’ve always done it one way, doesn’t mean you have to keep doing it that way. You can make changes as your career and skills and focus changes.
“It’s really important to understand what your time constraints are so that you can work with it and be realistic about what time you have in your schedule.” – Nicki
“We would love to believe that at 1059 we stop that project and 11 we start the new one. But to Kate’s point that’s not how it works. Think of our brain as a locomotive. it’s going to take some time to slow down and it’s going to take some time to start back up again.” – Nicki
“If you’re unsure and you’re like what did I do for 3 hours? Pull up your browser history and go through, what was I doing? What was I searching? What was I googling? What websites was I on? Pull up your phone. What apps was I on? Oh yeah, if I’m being honest, I did get on Instagram. And I’m being honest, I’m not sure how much time I spent there.” – Kate
“Look at what is—not just in your business—what do you find draining? What do you find annoying? what do you find yourself procrastinating on? Be open to the possibility of outsourcing some of this stuff and getting some of this stuff off your own plate.” – Nicki
