[1:16] Our hosts introduce CCA student and part-time copywriter, Alicia Castro. Nicki adds that her last appearance on the podcast continues to be a hit with listeners because of the great advice Alicia has about copywriting with a full-time job.
[2:38] Alicia mentions that as her full-time role progresses it continues to be important to manage her time to allow for her copywriting work. She notes that having a disciplined schedule helps her keep her balance between roles.
[5:32] Nicki praises Alicia for recognizing that her part-time copywriting is also running a business. She mentions that it can be difficult to acknowledge that fact, but once you do it makes it a lot easier to use your time efficiently for what your business needs.
[8:09] Setting boundaries is important, especially when trying to balance your copywriting with the rest of your life. Alicia talks about how sticking to these boundaries will not only protect your time but also earn respect from your clients.
[12:18] Alicia explains that allowing enough time for concepting and planning is the key to using your project time efficiently. She talks about how quickly the writing can come after there is a strong foundation set through careful strategizing.
[15:05] It can be easy when working both full-time and part-time to accidentally spend all of your time working. Alicia offers the incredible advice that in order to be a great copywriter you need to go out and live life so that you have a story to tell.
[19:42] Alicia speaks to nerves or fear around copywriting projects She recommends setting clear expectations for yourself and being prepared to learn from every experience while working with clients.
[27:17] Nicki jumps in to point out that Alicia has a super successful process in that she lets her clients know what the next step is. Not only does this make your life easier, but it also makes the clients life easier because they know what to do next.
[31:42] Alicia gives a great tip in to only allow clients to comment on a document versus letting them edit it straightforward. This adds to the collaborative process and allows for all parties to be on the same page.
[33:12] Kate asks Alicia to talk about some of the projects that excite her and speak to her passions. Alicia talks about how she loves to help empower women through her copywriting business.
