[2:12] The short answer: you can earn money as a copywriter as soon as you know what you’re doing. You need training. And you need to practice writing copy, which doesn’t mean you need to land a job.
[3:24] Guarantees like, “You’ll be able to make six-figures in pajamas in your first year” are a bit of b-s. Could you make six figures in your first year? It’s absolutely possible! But the reality is you will start making money when you take the actions you need to take to land clients.
[7:00] There are a lot of variables that play into how fast you can start earning. How much time do you have to devote to learning? What are your goals? When do you feel ready to pitch? Everyone is on their own individual timeline.
[11:11] It’s really going to be up to you to take that step outside your comfort zone. The moment when you’re ready to reach out to clients may feel very nerve-wracking. Let go of perfection and all the “what if’s.” You don’t get over fear before taking action. You get over fear by taking action.
[18:24] Put your best foot forward for any opportunity you want. Small businesses are great places to start because many will not ask to see your portfolio. And you can start providing value for them right away because many of them do not have a strong understanding of messaging.
[21:23] Write down your goals. Write down the steps you need to get there. Put it on your calendar. The process is the same for small businesses as it is for larger organizations.
