Nope! And anyone who still believes that is missing out on the massive amounts of work available to copywriters.
AI is shifting the way everyone does work. Including copywriters. But that boring truth doesn’t get clicks like headlines that say “AI is destroying these 5 industries.”
Here’s what we’re seeing from actually using these tools and working with clients:
- AI is making it more efficient for us to do certain tasks in our jobs, like transcribing meeting notes and then summarizing those notes.
- AI is a support, not a solution. The more time you spend with these tools, the more you realize how helpful they are—but also how limited they are. They require a skilled copywriter to wield them if they’re to have any value.
- There is more work for copywriters as clients realize we can move through projects a bit faster. Clients don’t have a limited number of projects. If they plan to stay in business, they have an infinite number of projects. If we know how to use AI as a support for our work, we are poised to help them tackle those projects, adding more value.
Technology, marketing, and the world have always shifted (even since we started our careers!) and will continue to shift. TikTok, Snapchat, and even Instagram are relatively new to the last decade. But copywriting? It’s been around forever. (Some people argue 3000 BC.)
The copywriters who will be successful are the ones who recognize AI not as a threat but as just another shift in the way we work. As the experts are now saying, “AI won’t take your job. It’s somebody using AI that will take your job.”
