Time to put on your business owner hat:
- Would you pay someone to clean your house?
- What about do your grocery shopping?
- What if someone could find clients for you? Would that be worth it for you?
On this Build Your Copywriting Business podcast episode, I’m not asking you to commit to hiring someone to do any of these things.
But I’d encourage you to listen to this episode and explore the possibilities.
If you charge your clients $75/hour and you can hire someone at $25 or even $50/hour to do a task better and faster for you, is that worth it?
It’s all math.
And it’s worth playing around with the numbers to see what opportunities you might be overlooking.

A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[00:00] We share the tools for building a thriving career. After teaching over 12,000 students through the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy, we are here to help you break through to new levels of income.
[01:20] Today, we are offering a reframe on a task many copywriters dread: the process of pitching to potential new clients. While our proprietary method is a direct line to success, we want to show you how to eventually take this off your list altogether.
[03:05] As a business owner, it is vital to check in every quarter to evaluate what is going well and what you absolutely loathe doing. If pitching is a consistent pain point for you, it is time to stop living with the struggle and start looking for a professional solution.
[04:26] I want to be clear that the solution is not using AI, which produces “crap,” or hiring a low-cost virtual assistant who lacks the necessary nuance. Pitching is a high-level skill that requires an expert who understands the strategy behind a successful, non-salesy outreach.
[05:46] One way to stop pitching for yourself is to build a small agency where you act as the head copywriter and farm out work to others. In this setup, you take a percentage of the income in exchange for finding the work, which covers the cost of hiring a designated pitcher.
[07:02] Another creative option is to form a collective with fellow copywriters to split the cost of a skilled person who crafts all your pitches. Since they aren’t reinventing the wheel for every pitch, you can often negotiate a better rate by providing a higher volume of work from the group.
[09:00] The easiest person to hire is often a fellow student who enjoys the strategy of looking at a website and identifying exactly what to pitch. However, you must oversee them initially to ensure their work reflects positively on your personal brand and email address.
[10:15] You must ensure the math works; paying someone more for pitches than the resulting projects earn you is a recipe for business failure. Ensure your agreements are “at will” so that if the quality of work or the professional chemistry isn’t right, you can exit the arrangement.
[12:08] Think of this like hiring a house cleaner, you could do it yourself, but your time might be more valuable when spent on high-level client work. Switching from a “freelancer” mindset to a “business owner” mindset allows you to weigh your enjoyment against your hourly rate.
[15:06] Outsourcing your outreach can buy back hours of your life to spend with family or to take on more creative projects you actually love. Whether you outsource 100% or just the cold outreach while keeping the re-pitching, the goal is to enhance your flexibility and financial benefits.
