Our feelings on niching have never wavered: niching unnecessarily limits your opportunities, especially when you’re first starting out.
But what if you have an entire career in an industry?
You can—and should—absolutely use that experience to your advantage.
CCA student and former healthcare worker Molly is sharing how she did exactly that on this week’s Build Your Copywriting Business podcast episode.
Molly didn’t focus her entire portfolio on healthcare copywriting.
Instead, she focused her outreach on the healthcare industry—and turned that into a six figure freelance career.
So, why’d she decide to take a full-time job? Listen to hear Molly explain …

A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[01:31] I spent years as a nursing assistant and a paramedic, working in ERs and home health. While I didn’t know it then, the patient-facing communication and the writing I did in healthcare laid the foundation for my future as a copywriter
[03:57] I spent years as a nursing assistant and a paramedic, working in ERs and home health. While I didn’t know it then, the patient-facing communication and the writing I did in healthcare laid the foundation for my future as a copywriter
[06:26] I decided to make learning copywriting my full-time job for about 18 months. I went through the entire course twice because when I do something, I “go hard”
[08:19] Initially, I struggled on Upwork, taking “crappy” jobs and undercutting my value. Things skyrocketed once I stopped throwing out 100 proposals a day and started focusing on a specific niche where I was exactly what clients needed
[10:51] I leaned back into my medical roots, focusing my outreach on healthcare and medicine. This allowed me to satisfy my “inner nerd” with science while utilizing my new creative marketing skills for private practice doctors.
[15:54] In 2023, I hit the magic six-figure mark with 14 clients. However, when a boutique healthcare agency offered me a W2 position in 2024, I took it for the better work-life balance and the sense of community.
[21:02] I encourage anyone on the fence to invest in themselves because one decision can lead to a completely different life. I also share how I manage my ADHD by creating a dedicated “work corner” and strict systems to stay productive.
[26:02] I view AI as a tool for research and SEO rather than a replacement for human writing. My clients often choose me specifically because I guarantee that a human—not a robot—is crafting their message.
