A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[1:00] There are a lot of things to be unnecessarily worried about when starting out as a copywriter and one of the top ones is whether or not you need business insurance. As a copywriter, you most likely don’t need business insurance. But, remember Nicki and Kate are not attorneys so if you still have some doubts, check with one!
[2:15] Insurance plays on that fear that you’ll get sued. When you are a copywriter, you don’t write the copy for yourself. When the copy is being used by the company, it is their voice, not yours.
[5:00] You most likely won’t be in a scenario where you are putting copy out on behalf of your client. If you start adding more services to your business, you might want to consider insurance.
[6:30] Nicki and Kate talk about how there are “home-based” insurance plans that target freelancers who run their businesses from home, much like most copywriters. Now that so much can be done 100% online, like copywriting, these plans are outdated for the new way people work.
[8:30] An insurance agent’s job is to sell you insurance. Instead of asking an insurance agent “Do I need insurance?” (where the answer will always be yes from them), ask what the insurance will cover for you so you can make an informed decision based on your own needs.
[10:00] Nicki and Kate mention that if you are offering a service where you are taking private information from clients’ clients such as credit card information or addresses, you should probably look into some cyber insurance.
