Instead of just sending through your copy via email, the best way to present it to a client is to get on a call with them, walk them through it, and, essentially, resell it to them. Give them the thinking behind the choices you’ve made and get them excited about the work you’ve done. Read more about why this is important and what you should say on the call in our blog post here >>
A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[2:17] Kate and Nicki explain why you should never be afraid of getting feedback. It is a necessary step to becoming a better copywriter and producing the best final version of a project.
[4:26] Be careful about where your feedback comes from. It is so important to make sure you are asking qualified sources for their input.
[7:24] Nicki and Kate dispel common fears when turning in a first draft to a new client. Remember, if you do the appropriate work at the outset of a project there is nothing to worry about!
[10:07] Kate points out that meeting with clients through a video call is the best way to receive feedback. This lets you see each others’ body language as well as walk through your copy doc together with the screen sharing function.
[13:17] You should go into every project expecting at least a couple rounds of feedback. It should come as a pleasant (and rare) surprise if your client comes back and tells you that you totally nailed it on your first try.
[17:52] Make sure clients know you are very much open to receiving feedback! You should not only welcome feedback but desire it because it helps you write your best copy.
[24:37] Be sure to ask clients, especially new ones, for feedback on the entire creative process. Asking clients what they like/dislike about working with you can lead to more repeat clients in the future!
[30:57] Nicki and Kate reiterate the fact that actively seeking out feedback from clients on any and all parts of the process can only help you grow. Just asking for feedback says a lot about you!
