By Nicki Krawczyk

Since we last talked to Kate Kosydar in 2020, her business has grown exponentially—she hit $10,000/month. But this is the best part: she did it working part-time!

Nicki and Kate caught up with Kate K to discuss what she’s learned over the past 3 years on her copywriting journey. She discusses the challenges of balancing work time and family time and how outsourcing has helped her deliver the best work for her clients while hitting her financial goals.

A Sneak Peek at the Episode

[1:27] Our guest Kate K shares her background and work experience in the non-profit sector leading up to joining the CCA in 2019 and learning copywriting. Kate’s business has grown so much that she is hitting nearly 5 figures working part-time!

[5:30] Kate K opens up about recently being diagnosed with ADHD and how this has impacted her career and business. She has recognized herself as a very creative individual and now has the tools to be able to follow through and execute those ideas.

[9:12] Kate K discusses how she’s at the point in her career where she is starting to outsource some of her day-to-day tasks to focus her time on her business.

[11:20] Nicki asks Kate K about her experience participating in CCA Next Level and how this has encouraged her to hire a virtual assistant to help with some of her freelance tasks. Remember that everything you invest in as a freelancer has to more than make up for its value to be worth it!

[14:20] When you’ve been working with a client for a long time, some of that work can become less exciting. Kate K has now expanded and has a junior copywriter working with her that she can pass some work off to while still overseeing everything and maintaining her client relationships. The more that you grow, the more you can create opportunities for other people.

[16:08] There is a learning curve when taking on a junior copywriter! Kate K talks about how her ability to give feedback and clear direction has evolved since working in a more management type of role.

[18:30] Kate K created a course of her own for new entrepreneurs! She details what inspired her, the learning curve, and how the process of creating and advertising the course went. She has big dreams!

[23:00] The possibilities of your career are endless when you allow yourself to dive in and take action. Done is better than perfect!

[25:10] Kate and Kate K discuss the pros and cons of creating and using templates. You can get really boxed in with templates and it can halt your growth.

[31:55] Nicki asks Kate K what she would tell herself from 3 years ago, just starting out. She talks about mindset and how big of an impact it has on the journey. When you meet resistance and something is hard, it can be really hard to push through to get to the rewarding part of the process.

[35:36] Each challenge you face makes the next one just a little bit easier. This is crucial for progress within your career and even in your life. Kate K explains how this is similar to stages of parenting as well.

[38:10] Nicki and Kate K dive into what makes pitching so hard. Is it physically hard, mentally hard, or emotionally hard? It can be different for everyone but Kate K found that, at the start, pitching was emotionally difficult for her but with time, this has improved.
