A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[1:46] Poorva starts out the interview by sharing a bit about her background and how she got started in the CCA. She’s always loved writing and took the opportunity to explore a new job path. She didn’t have any specific goals when she started other than to find a career that would provide her longer term success.
[5:53] Nicki dives right in and asks Poorva about where she is at now. Poorva explains how she’s built up her business to the agency level and packed up her life in Toronto to move to Costa Rica. From the day that she decided to explore this new life to moving and landing in Costa Rica was 7 months!
[8:28] Kate asks Poorva to walk us through the logistics of moving to a new country with a business and work remotely. Poorva explains her research, the lack of conveniences when moving to an island, and the importance of keeping an open mind when embarking on new experiences.
[10:27] It’s so important to have a financial plan when starting a new business or big life move. Poorva and her husband new exactly how much time they had from the start to be able to figure out their business and find clients etc.
[11:24] Nicki asks Poorva to expand more on agency life and how it’s working out for her. Turns out–it’s going very well! Poorva got her first client while she was still living in Canada and that really set her up for success as an agency as a whole.
[13:23] Poorva has used LinkedIn very successfully to land clients. She used the CCA to find her first clients and then has just expanded off the strategies she learned in the course to build her business.
[15:27] Poorva and Nicki discuss the importance of a money mindset when running a business. Regardless of the stage of your career, it’s easy to let imposter syndrome creep in but it’s important to charge what you are worth.
[16:32] Costa Rica is one of the easier countries to live and work as a remote foreigner. Kate asks Poorva to share more about the visa process when moving abroad and what challenges she might have faced.
[18:38] Nicki also asks Poorva about how it’s been developing a network and community there. Poorva talks about working with local businesses and how she’s made friends since moving. She also mentions how easy it is to take your fast-paced work habits with you no matter where you live. So it’s important, if you make a move like they did, to remember to balance your life and your balance.
[23:10] Poorva is asked if she’s thought about expanding her business and outsourcing to other copywriters. She talks more about her goals for the agency. She reiterates that when it comes to writing, you will make more copywriting than focusing on content.
[27:19] Poorva shares how helpful the CCA Facebook Group was when she first started her business. Having access to the community has been great for her and she likes jumping in still now and then to see how people are progressing and sharing their portfolios to see what cool projects everyone is working on.
[31:59] As you become a better copywriter, you will get better at pitching. You will learn how to remove the “sales” from your emails and the pitches that you send will sell themselves as you become more experienced.
[33:18] Nicki reminds everyone that you won’t get the big wins without taking risks and pushing yourself. Poorva shares that it does take time to see the success. She also shares who her dream client is!
