A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[3:00] Alicia explains her creative process, including the importance of writing a creative brief and having a discovery call. All of the up-front work allows the writing process to go more smoothly and is what ensures she can balance her 9-to-5 job with her copywriting business.
[7:00] With a full-time job, Alicia was having a hard time finding motivation to write. She talks about what has helped her gain inspiration when digging into a project, including swipe files and writing the call to action first and then writing everything leading up to it.
[11:40] Many of Alicia’s clients are solopreneurs or have small teams where they’re still doing all the things. She explains how she partners with her clients to ensure their messaging is dialed in and is positioned in the right way.
[18:50] Alicia talks about her own transformative experiences buying courses and programs and how that experience has impacted her. She also shares, as an introvert, the importance of having a community.
[22:07] Having been in situations where her copy has been torn apart, Alicia explains how she approaches a complete rework. She also digs into how she refocused her efforts and was able to get clients to say things like, “Oh my god, you’re in my head!”
[28:02] Alicia shares her advice on choosing a niche and why she recommends being open to writing different kinds of copy. She also shares her tips for those who, like her, struggle with brevity.
[35:31] Looking back on what she’s learned, one thing Alicia recommends is looking at copy proposals from a copy perspective. For larger projects, she explains how important it is to anticipate any objections and clearly highlight the transformation that they’ll get by going with her services.
[41:07] For those just getting started in copywriting, she emphasizes the importance of reading and looking at the copy that is all around you every day, as well as giving yourself time to learn it.
