In this episode, three CCA students each sit down with Nicki and Kate to ask their most pressing questions. These 10-minute laser coaching sessions are designed to help students overcome their biggest roadblock so they can continue making progress on their goals.
First, Nicki and Kate talk with Abigail about pricing and the feast or famine cycle. Then, Lindsey asks about the best way to approach a Discovery Call. Finally, Debbie wants to figure out how she can get more bites on her pitches, so Nicki and Kate talk about effective subject lines and making sure you find the right email for the pitch.
Even though it’s not you in the hot seat, there’s plenty you can takeaway and apply to your own copywriting business!

A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[1:45] Leading off, Abigail asks how she can achieve a consistent flow of work. Our hosts, Nicki and Kate, help her work through that question and also suggest that it’s OK to take the smaller jobs because those can quickly become a regular and consistent flow of income.
[5:30] Our panel discusses how important it is to send out pitches on a regular basis to keep work consistent and to keep the copywriter from becoming overwhelmed with follow up e-mails.
[8:30] Nicki and Kate chat about how important it is to find your most productive time of the day and schedule that out on the calendar so it can be dedicated it to work and growing your business.
[15:30] We meet Lindsey next and she is wondering: what are the best questions to ask when on a discovery call (or an interview) with a new potential client?
[22:00] Nicki and Kate offer insight on how best to use the time in a discovery call. From finding out the company’s process, to showcasing yours and also using the opportunity to show that you, the copywriter, have done your research!
[27:00] We end the call with Lindsey with a WIN! Lindsey started with the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy in July of 2020 and by February of 2021 was working full-time as a copywriter—all because of an inspiring Reddit post!
[29:00] Our third guest is Debbie, who is questioning how to break through into copywriting. Nicki and Kate look at one of her pitches and offer insight as to how to get the potential client to take the first step of opening the e-mail.
[38:00] As we wrap up the call Nicki and Kate break down what a strong pitch is and how to have the most impact with a simple e-mail.
