“Won’t the market be flooded with copywriters?” This question pops up on our Facebook ads. It’s because as soon as you click on an ad related to copywriting, or search content related to it, you’re going to get tons of information about copywriting.
But that doesn’t mean the world is flooded with copywriters. It just means the Internet recognizes you’re interested in the topic, so it’s going to feel like copywriters are everywhere.
Nicki and Kate dig into the data and why there is still such a need for great copywriters.

A Sneak Peek at the Episode
[4:00] Our brains are wired so that we’re bad at predicting probability. We are making assumptions based on the information we have versus all of the information out there. It’s very easy to stop ourselves and think, “there are too many copywriters,” simply because we see 10 copywriters and it begins to feel like a lot more.
[5:44] It’s important to know when to pause and determine if you’re basing your thoughts in reality or not.
[7:00] In 2019, there were 32.5 million businesses in the US and 1.5 million nonprofits. And that’s just in the US. There are Comprehensive Copywriting Academy members from around the world, including US copywriters working for companies in other countries and copywriters from other countries working for US companies. Plus, 543,000 new businesses are started each month (around the world).
[8:35] Yes, not every company is not going to hire a copywriter.
[9:13] Most copywriters can work with a handful of clients each month. Three to five clients is likely going to be the maximum number of clients you can take per month, depending on the project. And several of those clients may be clients you work with month after month.
[11:11] If only 1% of current businesses in the US hire a copywriter, that’s 340,000 businesses. And if you can only take three to five clients a month, then there’s no way the market will be flooded with copywriters. There is so much more opportunity that there are copywriter to meet that need.
[12:15] Not all copywriters are created equally. Maybe a client needs a senior-level copywriter and a junior-level copywriter. Clients also need backup if their copywriter gets sick or someone goes on maternity leave.
[14:51] Copywriters may hit a certain level and become a creative director and do something else beyond being a copywriter. The ascension model can be junior, mid-level, and senior-copywriter to associate creative director and creative director, so some people may be leveling up out of copywriting.
[16:50] Start noticing and writing down the businesses you come across every day. When you start paying attention to what’s around you, but also ads in your Instagram feed, TV, email, and in your mailbox.
